Job Description

Lead the Workday: Advanced CNC Manufacturing Cell Lead

Location: Reading, PA
Schedule: 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, Monday–Friday
Compensation: $30.00–$38.00 per hour

What your day looks like

You arrive to a clean, organized shop and kick off a quick stand-up with the team—aligning priorities, allocating work, and confirming tooling and material readiness. You map the day’s workflow, then dive into programming for a high-precision, complex component—often 5-axis—using Mastercam and models from SolidWorks. You perform a first-article inspection, adjust offsets or make real-time program edits, and keep parts moving with in-process checks and tight tolerance control.

Mid-morning, you sync with engineering, production, and quality to remove bottlenecks and ensure on-time delivery for both internal and external customers. You log job details in the ERP system for traceability and efficiency. Throughout the day, you mentor machinists, reinforce 5S, and model safe behaviors to support a zero-incident culture. Before close, you review cycle times, spot improvement opportunities, and set the team up for tomorrow’s success.

Core responsibilities

  • Leadership and planning: Organize daily machining activities, assign priorities, and optimize labor and workflow.
  • Decisive execution: Use data and experience to make timely calls that protect quality and output.
  • Cross-functional coordination: Partner with engineering, production, and quality for seamless project execution.
  • Continuous improvement: Reduce waste, shorten cycle times, and boost machining efficiency.
  • Safety and compliance: Champion safe practices and support a zero-incidents environment.
  • Programming and operation: Create CNC programs for new parts with a focus on complex, high-precision work (3-, 4-, and 5-axis).
  • Inspection and quality: Perform first-article and in-process checks with manual gauges; make live program edits to maintain spec.
  • Workflow optimization: Monitor orders and align output to business and customer goals.
  • Systems and documentation: Record time, job steps, and production data in ERP for transparency.
  • Team support: Lead by example—integrity, respect, collaboration, and persistence—while sustaining 5S and quality standards.
  • Other duties: Take on additional machining or leadership tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years in CNC machining, including programming, setup, and operation.
  • Technical tools: SolidWorks, Mastercam, and 5-axis programming/operation proficiency.
  • Hands-on range: Proven setup and operation of 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC equipment.
  • Inspection literacy: Strong drawing interpretation, tolerance understanding, and manual inspection.
  • Leadership: Previous lead machinist or team lead experience preferred.
  • Physical: Able to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
