Salary: $29.00-$43.00 per hour

About the role

Compass Point Contracting is looking for an experienced Carpenter to join our Self Perform team. This position is responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing structural and architectural components across a range of projects. The Carpenter ensures all work meets Compass Point's standards for quality, precision, and safety, while contributing to the overall success of our site operations.

This role works closely with site leads, trades, and labor teams to execute framing, formwork, finishing, and general construction tasks. The ideal candidate takes pride in their craftsmanship, works efficiently, and prioritizes site safety and collaboration.

What you'll do
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood, metal, and other materials.
  • Build and install formwork, frames, partitions, doors, windows, stairs, and trim.
  • Construct and strip formwork for concrete slabs, walls, and footings.
  • Place and tie rebar, assist with concrete pouring, leveling, and finishing.
  • Mark and prepare work areas to ensure accurate dimensions and layout.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and hazard assessments.
  • Collaborate with site leads, laborers, and trades to complete project goals.
  • Support apprentices and contribute to a positive team environment.
What you bring
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a certified carpentry apprenticeship preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience as a carpenter in self-perform or commercial construction.
  • Skills: Skilled in framing, formwork, finishing, and joinery.
  • Technical: Proficiency in reading blueprints, using measurement tools, and operating power equipment.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and WorkSafeBC safety procedures.
  • Abilities: Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical: Stamina and strength for demanding site work.
  • Mindset: Team-oriented with professional communication skills.
