Duties

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Deputy Director of the FSEMD, supporting the Division Director in achieving strategic objectives.
  • Manage the technical and administrative operations of the Crime Laboratory and provide oversight for its specialized units.
  • Supervise Unit Supervisors and the Quality Manager, ensuring high performance and adherence to best practices.
  • Direct the laboratory’s quality assurance program to ensure compliance with forensic standards, accreditation, and licensing requirements.
  • Develop and evaluate policies, procedures, and workflows to improve operational efficiency and align with organizational goals.
  • Represent the laboratory in professional forums, including legislative hearings, professional conferences, and grant initiatives.
  • Provide expert guidance on resource allocation, training needs, and program development to enhance forensic services.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of forensic results to stakeholders, including law enforcement, legal professionals, and the community.

Requirements

Experience:
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in an accredited forensic laboratory, including two (2) years of supervisory or managerial experience.
Education:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
Equivalency:
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences
  • Demonstrated proficiency as an expert in at least one forensic discipline within an accredited Crime Laboratory for at least ten years.
  • Extensive analytical, policy planning, and coordination skills for directing complex projects and managing diverse teams.
  • Experience delivering expert testimony in court and collaborating with legal professionals.
  • Proficiency in interpreting complex laws, regulations, and guidelines related to forensic science and evidence management.
  • Proven ability to manage, supervise, and train employees within a unionized environment.
  • Expertise in developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and programs for an accredited crime laboratory.
  • Experience working in large law enforcement agencies (500+ sworn personnel).
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
