Legal Assistant/Legal Secretary

Schaffer & Associates, Chtd., a personal injury defense firm, has an immediate opening for a full-time legal assistant/legal secretary in its Overland Park, Kansas, office. This position is responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to the firm’s attorneys essential to its daily operations. Candidates must have excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple assignments with deadlines. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook. Minimum of high school degree; professional legal secretarial experience or paralegal certificate preferred. Salary commensurate with experience. Responsibilities:

· Prepare initial drafts of routine legal correspondence, pleadings, and discovery requests

· Assemble and file documents electronically in federal and state courts

· Transmit correspondence to clients and opposing counsel on behalf of attorneys

· Open case files

· Schedule hearings and coordinate court reporters and translators for depositions

· Interface professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel

· Answer phones and direct calls

· Process incoming and outgoing mail

· Manage office supply inventory

· Handle other duties as assigned

Job Type: Full-time

Base Pay: $40,000.00 - $56,311.50 per year
