About Recycling Roundups Program:

​ Recycling Roundups are free community events organized by Tennessee Environmental Council (TEC) in collaboration with local recycling partners. Roundups allow residents to dispose of hard-to-recycle items like tires, electronics, mattresses, scrap metal, and Styrofoam at no cost. The goal of the roundups is to reduce litter, prevent illegal dumping, help our communities recycle, and reduce strain on our landfills. Roundups are funded by grants from USEPA and Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). For more information, visit our website .The Recycle Tennessee Program Assistant will work in collaboration with the Recycle Roundup Program Director and Recycle Roundup Program Specialist on planning and coordinating Recycling

Roundups. This position is located in Nashville, Tennessee, and is a hybrid position that includes approximately 10 out-of-town events. In this position, you will assist in securing sponsorships, program development, and expansion. You will collaborate with team members, and assist with administrative tasks such as maintaining and creating spreadsheets, reports, communications, and tracking expenses. You will also assist with event planning and execution through communications with applicants and recycling partners, event setup, and seeing events through completion.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist Recycling Roundup team with the implementation, planning, and execution of events
  • Create and submit invoices, track expenditures
  • Detailed e-filing
  • Prepare and create reports with Program Manager’s help
  • Maintain records and files through Google Drive and sheets 
  • Seek sponsorships to work in conjunction with TEC
  • Create marketing materials (i.e. flyers, handouts, and advertisements)
  • Assist Communications Manager with social media promotions 
  • Interact with recycling partners, event partners, solid waste directors, and the public
  • Research and connect with local news media outlets
  • Research outreach opportunities
  • Secure event materials
  • Running errands as needed (pick up marketing materials, purchase supplies, drop off event materials for recycling)
  • Assist with out-of-town events
  • Additional job duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Professional, punctual, self-motivated, dependable, with a strong work ethic
  • Availability to travel within Tennessee
  • Availability for numerous evening and weekend events
  • Must be organized, communicative, and able to work independently
  • Must enjoy working outside and interacting with the community
  • Well-versed in Google Workspaces, spreadsheets, Adobe, and/or comparable software
  • Strong skills with Canva and graphics creation (i.e. event flyers)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Being bilingual is a plus
  • Experience in event planning and execution
  • Ability to prioritize, with exceptional time-management skills
  • Experience with grant preparation is a plus (research, reading, writing, tracking, submitting)
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in recycling, sustainability, or within the environmental science field
  • Ability/Experience driving a 26ft truck is a plus

Outdoor Working Conditions at Roundup Events:

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Ability to load/unload materials in and out of vehicles
  • You may sit, stand, or drive for long periods
