Incumbent is a Transition Patient Advocate Social Worker in the Military2VA (M2VA) program, whose duties and responsibilities relate to the care management of Post 9/11 service members and Veterans treated at the facility, including those who are severely ill and/or injured. The incumbent must use a high level of skill in assessing and assisting in the management of the complicated psychosocial problems of Post 9/11 service members and/or Veterans as they transition to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) care. Position requires the ability to engage in Social Work care management, which includes psychosocial screenings, assessment, and treatment, focused on supporting Post 9/11 Veterans and their family members. The Transition Patient Advocate Social Worker will also support with establishing VA care, supportive resources and the transition to civilian life after the military. Position requires a basic knowledge of human development and behavior (physical and psychological), and the differential influences of the environment, society, and culture, as M2VA works with wide variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, educational, and other diversified backgrounds. In addition, the incumbent assists Post 9/11 service members and/or Veterans in coping with acute illness, chronic illness, combat stress, the residuals of traumatic brain injury (TBI), community adjustment, addictions, and other health and mental health problems. Incumbent will be involved in routine program outreach and will have administrative responsibilities including data management related to supporting the M2VA program.
GS-9: Is the entry level grade for the GS-0185 Social Work series and is used for Social Workers with less than one year of post-MSW experience and for Social Workers with less than one year of post-MSW VA experience and for Social Workers who are not yet licensed or certified at the independent practice level. Social Workers at the GS-0185-9 level are working toward completion of prerequisites for licensure or certification.
GS-11: Individuals assigned as GS-11 social workers are considered to be at the full performance level and must have an independent licensure. ( Note: For GS-11, you must submit a copy of your independent license with the application.)
