Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • The Cytotechnologist Supervisor job assumes responsibility for operation, technical and personnel management related duties for assigned laboratory section(s) and for solving day to day lab operational problems and notifying the Laboratory Manager, Director or Physician Supervisor of problems as appropriate.
  • Maintains a patient/client focused department that complies with the standards of accrediting/regulatory agencies; oversees training and competency testing of all personnel in the department and maintains documentation; performs technical work as necessary; and promotes and ensures compliance with Ochsner Health System’s Laboratory policies, procedures and practices. 
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and personnel related information at all times and exhibits a high degree of processional excellence characterized by sound independent judgment, reliability, initiative, flexibility and a high standard of ethics.

Education:

  • Required - Bachelor’s degree.


Work Experience:

  • Required - 3 years experience in appropriate lab under a qualified Medical Director, to include experience working in controlled environment, following safety measures to minimize exposure to chemicals, body fluids, blood borne pathogens, etc.
  • Preferred - Experience utilizing advanced analytical skills necessary in order to analyze complex data and trouble shoot equipment.

Certifications:

  • Required - Cytotechnologist ASCP Registry.
  • Current Louisiana license or temporary license as a Cytotechnologist.
  • Meets CLIA and CAP requirements for testing personnel relative to scope of duties.
  • Any incumbent certified by ASCP on or after January 1, 2004 must successfully complete the requirements of the ASCP’s Certification Maintenance Program.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinates daily operations.
  • Supervises, trains and develops department staff.
  • Oversee Performance Improvement (PI) & Quality Control (QC) Programs.
  • Ensures fiscal responsibility.
  • Participates in Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (PALM) and departmental projects.
  • Other related duties as required.
