Job Title: VMware Migration Engineer with OpenStack Expertise

Location: Phoenix, AZ. Remote work with an occasional on-site requirement.

Employment Type: Contract/ Full-Time

Contract Length: 24 months

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced VMware Migration Engineer with expertise in OpenStack to join our team.

In this role, you will lead and execute VMware to OpenStack migration projects, ensuring seamless transitions, minimal downtime, and optimal performance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including cloud architects, DevOps engineers, and IT administrators, to deliver innovative solutions for enterprise-level cloud infrastructure modernization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, design, and execute the migration of VMware environments to OpenStack managed solutions.
• Assess and analyze existing VMware infrastructure to identify dependencies, performance bottlenecks, and migration risks.
• Develop migration strategies, tools, and timelines to meet project goals and minimize operational impact.
• Configure and optimize OpenStack environments, ensuring compatibility with existing workloads and applications.
• Implement high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and backup strategies during the migration process.
• Work closely with stakeholders to document migration requirements and ensure business continuity throughout the project.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to VMware, OpenStack, and hybrid cloud infrastructure.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to internal teams.
• Stay updated with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and OpenStack enhancements.

Qualifications:

• Proven Experience: Minimum of 5+ years working with VMware infrastructure and 2+ years with OpenStack technologies.
• Technical Expertise: Proficiency in VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, and OpenStack Managed solutions.
• Migration Skills: Hands-on experience in planning and executing large-scale migrations to cloud-native platforms.
• Cloud Knowledge: Familiarity with public cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is a plus.
• Scripting & Automation: Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash) for automating migration tasks and infrastructure management.
• Certifications: VMware (e.g., VCP, VCAP) and OpenStack certifications are highly desirable.
• Problem Solving: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
• Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
