The WIC Nutrition Assistant II (WNA II) is responsible for providing nutrition and breastfeeding education to Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program participants, in accordance with USDA standards. Determine WIC eligibility and complete certification, prescribe and issue food benefits and make referrals. Follow TrueCare and WIC policies and procedures. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Incorporate TC Building Great Relationships (BGR) standards in all interactions.
• Interview applicants to determine WIC program eligibility based on state guidelines pertaining to nutritional assessment, income, residence status and medical information.
• Document WIC program eligibility and contacts using CDPH statewide database, WIC WISE.
• Assess the nutritional adequacy of participants’ diets and refer possible high-risk participants to appropriate staff.
• Provide information to program participants regarding general nutrition, program services and activities, and program procedures.
• Prescribe food package and issue food benefits using the California e-WIC debit card. Maintain e-WIC card security.
• Teach nutrition and breastfeeding classes to WIC participants according to agency lesson plans.
• Provide low-risk nutrition and breastfeeding counseling to participants using Participant Centered Education (PCE) principals and techniques.
• Create nutrition education follow-up plans for participants and electronically document summaries of appointments.
• Promote breastfeeding as the recommended method of infant feeding.
• Assist with the Electric Breast Pump Loan Program.
• Refer participants to health and social services, as needed, and document follow-up.
• Participate in stocking, organizing, and tidying WIC storage and common areas.
• Support WIC Program Administration by assisting with workgroups, outreach, and other assignments. Assist with caseload maintenance activities.
• Participate in ongoing education and training.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 6 Months experience as a Nutrition Assistant I or equivalent health related experience.
• Minimum two to four (2 - 4) years’ experience in customer service.
• Completion of the WIC Nutrition Assistant Certification Training.
• Computer proficiency, particularly with data entry and the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Desired Qualifications:

• Associate degree in nutrition, food science, dietetics, or related field.
• Knowledge of the WIC Program and maternal child health.
• Knowledge of nutrients/foods as well as familiarity of life cycle nutritional needs (pregnancy, breastfeeding, infancy, and children).
• Bilingual English and Spanish.

The pay range for this role is $21 - $29 on an hourly basis.

If you are hired at TrueCare, your final base salary (within the pay range), will be determined based on factors such as education, knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members when determining any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer generous benefits and retirement plans.
