POSITION SUMMARY: Sports Promotions Group (SPG) is seeking new team members for our onsite event retail sales team. Summer Event Sales Interns will assist with our event sales and grassroots marketing efforts through the implementation of retail stores at national soccer events with major accounts throughout the U.S. during the internship window. This position is travel-intensive. Applicants should be prepared to be on the road at events for the majority of the summer. In addition to managing event sales efforts, interns will enter the market to interact with the soccer customer base in efforts to increase consumer spending, support current partners and gain new customers. The position is compensated hourly at a $12/hour rate with overtime eligibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Upon the completion of this program, participants will:

• Understand the SPG event sales program and the activities that take place behind the scenes to operate a successful event retail business.
• Manage inventory and understand the product cycle throughout the business.
• Develop cooperative leadership skills and confidence in decision making.
• Consistently demonstrate the ability to tactfully handle challenging situations.
• Collect, track, and analyze data related to retail events.
• Create and test new marketing strategies to increase partner satisfaction and increase consumer conversion.
• Develop and maintain strong consumer and partner relationships to increase brand loyalty.
• Fulfill and execute specific sports marketing activations tailored to the event and sponsoring brand/client.
• Understand the event set-up and promotional process for Sports Promotions Group.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Position involves weekend and holiday work with frequent travel expectations for extended periods of time.
• Mandatory availability within the following periods:
• 5/22-27
• 5/58-6/1
• 6/4-30
• 7/8-7/21
• Must be willing to travel and work weekends and week nights, as events occur.
• Must be sales oriented with strong customer service skills.
• Must have an outgoing and friendly personality.
• Must have a basic understanding of accounting to assist with inventory management.
• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to handle event organization and set up in a team based setting.
• Ability to stay on task, work independently, and remain productive in periods without direct supervision.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, ~50lbs. 
• Program will last from May 15th to August 4th with the expectation that interns will be available for the duration of the time period. There are opportunities for additional work outside of these periods if candidates are interested.
• Preference will be given to students pursuing a four-year degree in a related field (Business, Marketing, Economics, Communications, Sport Management, Retail and Consumer Science, etc.).
• Knowledge of the youth club soccer market is a plus.

TENTATIVE EVENT SCHEDULE:

• Dates and locations are subject to change
• Interns will not be traveling to every event but are expected to be available during the periods where multiple events occur
• Interns will be working in the Hillsborough, NC corporate office when not traveling to events

SPG will be traveling to the following states this summer: California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.
