Job Title- UI/UX Designer

Duration- 6+ months contract

WORK ARRANGEMENT :

• 90% Remote from within Wisconsin. This position will work mostly remote from within the state of WI, with some on-site attendance required (3-4 days a month).
• The candidate must be a current resident of Wisconsin with a history of working in the state.
• No relocations

VISA: USC, GC only

INTERVIEW PROCESS:

• Initial interview will be conducted via Teams meeting
• Follow-up rounds as necessary
• We assume some/all of interviews will be onsite in Madison

"The selected hire is not required to be able to write code; however, we are really hoping to find someone who also has some UI/UX coding experience if possible. For Telerik UI, they would only be expected to be able to use it if they are able to do coding. As far as designing and helping the developers figure out how to code from their designs, having some experience working with developers using Telerik UI would be ideal."

REQUIRED SKILLS: (Need Majority; 3+ Years)

• At least 3 years' experience creating low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes to visualize and test design concepts
• At least 3 years' experience in writing clear and concise user-friendly text for interfaces
• At least 3 years' experience in conducting user research, gathering qualitative and quantitative data, and analyzing it to inform design decisions
• At least 3 years' experience creating user personas, user flows, and journey maps to understand user needs and behaviors

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS:

• Experience in designing with WCAG accessibility guidelines in mind
• Ability to clearly articulate design choices, present ideas, and work effectively with various teams (developers, clients, stakeholders)
• Familiarity with ASP.NET Core frameworks (including Razor)
• Experience with third-party UI component libraries such as Telerik UI
• Experience with front-end web technologies like HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript
• Familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks such as Angular and React

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE: The Wisconsin Elections Commission is charged under Wisconsin Statutes to administer and enforce Wisconsin s elections laws. A core mission of the Commission is to ensure ongoing and quality education, training, outreach, technical assistance, and advice to municipal clerks, county clerks, and local election inspectors (poll workers) that conduct elections, as well as to ensure adherence to, and compliance with Wisconsin election laws and required procedures.

Another core function of the Commission is to provide current and accurate information to the public and various governmental and other organizations about the State's electoral processes, voting statistics, and trends.

This position functions under the supervision of the IT Project Manager and IT Director, as part of the Information Technology team, and serves as a resource for developers and election specialists.

The position is responsible for designing, helping to develop, and maintaining the UI/UX for the rebuilding of Wisconsin s statewide voter registration system called WisVote , which is being built on the .NET Core framework.

WisVote serves as the state s central database of voter and election information and is the primary tool for local election officials to administer elections. The role involves creating intuitive, efficient, and accessible designs that meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards and align usability and security requirements, while maintaining the overall structure and integrity familiar to system users.

The designer will collaborate with developers and WisVote election specialists to translate functional needs into user-friendly designs, conduct accessibility testing, and ensure the rebuilt application provides a consistent, responsive experience across devices and assistive technologies.

Compliance with the agency s timekeeping system is required to ensure tasks performed qualify under federal funding guidelines or that work representing State initiatives is properly accounted for using State funds.
